Let me guess.
You hate ‘selling’, but you need customers.
Well, here’s some good news: that’s exactly where engagement marketing comes in. It’s all about engaging potential customers, in varied personal and meaningful ways that show exactly how you’re going to help them.
Sounds great, doesn’t it?
So, I have come up with these five engagement marketing ideas, you can implement today for big results.
1. Create a Lead Magnet
A Lead Magnet is simply a free incentive offered to potential customers, in exchange for their contact details.
(If you’ve ever downloaded a free eBook or guide from a website, then you’re familiar with the concept).
The best Lead Magnets will help you create a list of interested people, so you can showcase your services, and start building the kind of trust and rapport that leads to sales.
For best results, make your Lead Magnet short, snappy, and easy to consume. Use it to offer a piece of advice, or solve a particular problem that your target audience will relate to (for example, ‘Ten Top Tips’ or ‘The Biggest Mistake to Avoid’).
Don’t forget to make sure your Lead Magnet looks good! If you can’t stretch to a professional designer, use sites like Canva to add a touch of polish.
2. Design a Landing Page
Now you’ve got your Lead Magnet, it’s time to give it a home!
A website Landing Page is the perfect place. It’s a dedicated page that will feature not only your Lead Magnet, but any associated groups or offers…
…that will compel readers to take immediate action (example: Download your FREE guide now!)
You can ask your web developer to build a Landing Page, or create your own on your website – or maybe use sites like Thrive Themes, or LeadPages.
3. Maximise Your Social Media
What’s the use of creating a sparkling Landing Page, and a captivating Lead Magnet, if nobody’s going to see them?
That’s why you’ve got to use your social media pages to drive people over.
Write eye-catching posts, go Live, record introductory videos, and change your cover photos…
…so that people won’t be able to resist taking a peek!
4. Engage via Email
If you’ve followed the previous steps, you’ll now have an email marketing list ready and waiting to go (these are the people who downloaded your Lead Magnet).
Now it’s time to engage them even further, with an automated sequence of friendly, useful emails.
For example, the first email could be a ‘thank you’ message for downloading your Lead Magnet, while the next could ask if they enjoyed it… and do they have any questions or feedback? A third might come with an exclusive offer.
Make sure the tone of each email reflects you and your business approach, in language that speaks to your target audience. Prune your list regularly, too – check open and click-through rates for each message you send, so you can keep on engaging the right people.
Use a dedicated email platform to make life easier, such as Active Campaign (which is the one I use) or Mailerlite – you get some great features on their free version.

5. Make Personal Connections
Online engagement marketing ideas are all well and good, but I doubt anything will replace the value of personal connections.
So, try to attend relevant networking events and exhibitions (face to face or online, if need be), and grab as many speaking opportunities as you can!
Sprinkle your diary with coffee meetings, so you can find out more about potential customer interests over an engaging chat, and promote your business naturally.
One Last Thing
As you work on these engagement marketing ideas, be honest, open, regular, and true to your business approach.
Try to remember that while you WILL lose people along the way, the ones who stay are your people… the tribe who are best placed to help you hit your targets!
