Why Content Marketing is Your New Best Friend: Some Time-Saving Tips and Tools

If you haven’t embraced content marketing and taken your business online (and I don’t just mean social media!), you’re missing a hefty trick.

These days, there’s no excuse for not taking some – if not all – of your business online. Even face-to-face businesses like beauty salons and personal trainers can get in on the online act, by making up pampering facial kits, or live-streaming fitness classes.

Or what about gift vouchers, giving people something to look forward to in the new year?  It’s all about thinking creatively about what you could sell.

HOWEVER… it’s not enough to just get your products and services online, if you’re not going to tell anyone about it!

This is Where Content Marketing Comes In

Let’s face it, you’ve probably got the basics down by now.

You know you need an enticing lead magnet, you know you need to post regularly on social media, and you know you need to blog.

(If you don’t know that or haven’t got that sorted, we need to talk!)

It’s just… where on Earth are you going to find the time to do all that extra work?

Here are some of my favourite time-saving Content Marketing tips and tools (consider them an early Christmas gift, if you like!) to help set your business up for online success.

Put Your Best Content Back to Work!

Engaging content should be given more than one opportunity to shine, before it disappears forever!

That’s why content re-purposing is such a brilliant tip for micro business owners who are short on time (that’s all of us, then.)

All you’ve got to do is re-share older pieces of content, or break down longer social media posts into shorter snippets.

For example, if you’ve written a Christmas-themed blog post before, then why not dust it off for this year?  And while you’re at it, how about transforming an old blog post into a podcast episode, a Live video, or an infographic?

Add an Image (or Two)

Why write, when a picture paints a thousand words?

Adding well-chosen images to your blog posts and social media updates will spark extra interest… but don’t worry if you’re not a trained photographer!

There’s a wealth of free image sites to help you out (try Unsplash or Pixabay for starters), while wonder-sites like Canva will have you designing your own social media banners and infographics with ease.

Be a Social Media Video Star!

It’s no accident that social media platforms are primed for video content.  Videos grab much more attention than written posts…

…and did you know that 9 out of 10 Tiktok users return to the site multiple times a day?  That’s a lot of attention for a collection of 15-second videos… so why not get creative, and make one of your own?

Contrary to belief, it’s not just teenagers that use video sites like TikTok – there are plenty of fully-grown adults amongst its 800 million global audience!

But if you find that idea too daunting, you could use a miracle-tool like Lumen5 to create an eye-catching video from your written blog posts or website content, complete with music and engaging visuals.

(I’m a big fan of Lumen5, and I bet you’ll become one too!)

If All Else Fails, Let Someone Else Do the Work!

You may work for yourself, but you don’t have to do everything yourself.

There are plenty of people (and tools!) out there to help take your content requirements off your To-Do list.

Sites like Fiverr can introduce you to talented creatives if you’re lacking in introductions.

Every post, every blog entry, every infographic, every lead magnet, and every video you create should lead back to one place.

Your website.

A good rule of thumb is to create a specific landing page on your website for any offer, course, or service (this is a particularly good tip for Christmas offers.)

From there, you can direct potential customers to other areas of your site… where they’ll get to find out more about you and your amazing business!
