A one-size, fits-all business mentoring system? 

You will hear some people say that a standardised system is possible, but I haven’t found anything yet that works for everyone – and I’ve been doing this for years.

If a business owner comes to me and says “I need you to help me sort out the mess in my head!” (does that sound familiar?) I can’t whip out a pro-forma plan to remedy that.

Each business is unique because every business owner is unique – so the ‘business mentoring system’ they need has to be unique too!

Creating Your Unique Business Mentoring System

As a Solopreneur business mentor, my first conversation with someone who books a complimentary call with me is either:

  • a request to help them sort out a series of (seemingly) conflicting ideas in their head, or
  • some practical questions about their product or service offer, their website or their social media marketing (sometimes it’s all three!)

However, it doesn’t surprise me that a lot of micro and side-hustle business owners are looking for the holy grail of a one-size-fits-all, business mentoring system.

When you are ‘the business’ there is an intense feeling of overwhelm.  There are so many different things you have to do, and for each one, the buck stops with YOU.

I’m an experienced business mentor, so I help business owners sort through this unstoppable avalanche of tasks and responsibilities, so they can build the type of business – not to mention the lifestyle – they really want.

Why do I offer a complimentary, no-obligation, half-hour conversation? I can tell you – categorically – it’s not a sales call! I can’t do that kind of thing; it’s so unnatural to me it makes me break out into a hot sweat.

I offer them because I want to help.

It is highly unlikely that everyone I speak with on one of these calls will convert to a client (TBH, I couldn’t cope with it if they did!) But I feel it’s my ‘duty’ to help if I can and, on the practical side, we all need to road-test something before we decided to invest our time or our money.

These exploratory calls are just that; an opportunity to check whether we’ll be a good fit for each other, and if my knowledge and experience can really help you with your specific needs.

Now you can see why there is no pro-forma! No standard one-size-fits-all.

My Practical Magic Business Mentoring System

Over the years I have worked with 100s of business owners and spoken with 1000s. I have used that experience to come up with five questions that enable me to get to the heart of that business owners issue really quickly.

I ask them about:

  1. Their current business or the idea they have for a business
  2. If they have set any business goals
  3. What they think may be holding them back from reaching those goals
  4. Do they know what kind of help they need or what they need help with
  5. How do they think I can help

So, when someone books a call directly into my diary I ask them to answer these five questions on the booking form. By the time we speak, I have had an opportunity to think about some solutions to the issues.

The half an hour we have together covers a lot of ground and includes loads of practical suggestions and ideas.
